Fashion instinct – can it be thought?
There’s some people who have this thing, they can easily know whether some things go together well or not, even without trying them on over and over again. That’s called having a fashion instinct.
Can someone teach it to you?
It may seem contradictory,if it’s an instinct, how could you learn to do it? Well, there are some basic rules and just like style, it’s never too late to create a special place in your mind for right and wrong combinations. All you will have to do is categorize them instantly as one of the two. And here comes the hard part.
How can you know which is which?
You can’t. You just have to trust your first reaction. If there’s something that just doesn’t look good and doesn’t make you feel good, don’t wear it. It’s that simple. If you really wanna pair that item with something, let it out of the closet and if it happens for you pull out items that may fit with it, then pull those out too and after you have a couple of options you can see if they actually look good together. Don’t forget to try them on,this is a must. Remember that things could look differently in reality than in your mind.
The colours are the first thing that some will notice. If the colours are paired correctly and if they have the same undertones they will go together well. You should never combine complementary colours like red and green (unless it’s Christmas), orange and blue, purple and yellow. I think that in order to impress you can either go for a total white or total black look,or if you like bright colours, try to combine at first black, white or nude with colours that flatter anyone like red, navy blue and grey. And don’t forget that you should also consider where you’re going when choosing an outfit.
Create and instinct based on what you usually like to wear
Simply, that means that if you’re used to wearing only neutrals, you will feel weird wearing usual, bright colours, right? If you know what makes you feel confident and what makes you look at your best, use it in your advantage. An outfit should reflect your personality, so if you don’t feel like what you’re wearing says something about yourself, then it’s pointless to wear it.
And the most important thing, don’t think about other people’s tastes, just let your own senses guide you, after all your can only teach it to yourself, with time.
